The Last Concubine is a story by one of the non-fiction author. This tells about the period, cultural and geographical details. Though the narration is discomfited this makes the novel too long. The story is good, although it sounds like female version of Clavell’s Shogun. The clunky writing style has made it fight back and it’s tempting to glide the last hundred pages.
Sachi is the adopted daughter of a village innkeeper and former samurai who goes on to become concubine to the shogun in the 1860s. When her husband dies bafflingly and the palace at Edo is in danger of extinction, Sachi and her maid Taki will escape trap and Princess Kazu seeks refuge. Sachi meets swordsman Shinzaemon and his companions Sachi falls for Shinzaemon.
During this journey Sachi discovers the truth about her mother and that she is not simply a jumped up peasant innkeeper’s daughter, and that she may be repeating her mother’s crime of falling for a man rather than doing her duty. At the same time, westerners are coming to Japan and bringing strange ways and machinery with them, threatening the old culture.

Siegfried And Roy With White Tiger
Siegfried and Roy made their short goodbye appearance at the Power of Love gala which was held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Along with them was Montecore, the white Bengal tiger who attacked Roy and had ended all their show biz careers.
But now they are back again and will be featuring tonight in a one-hour special on ABC’s 20/20. The money which will be raised will be given to Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, which has new facilities to treat many neurological disorders, which also includes the same disorder which was faced by Horn after Montecore grabbed him by the throat and dragged him off after they had performed together in 2003.
The cat-loving entertainers have maintained that Montecore was only trying to protect Roy because he detected that Roy had suffered a mini-stroke. That’s never been proven one way or the other because tigers don’t maul and tell. I’m just glad nobody whipped ut a gun and shot Montecore on the spot without at least asking some questions.
At the gala, Roy walked onto the stage in a cape and mask but Siegfried carried the show, standing in a giant cage to perform an illusion where he reappeared across the stage and was replaced in the cage by Montecore.
Their performance lasted only about 10 minutes, but was a huge deal in Vegas, complete with a Hollywood-style red carpet, and attended by such notables as chef Wolfgang Puck.
In my research, I found a strange little Web site that popped up after Roy’s accident, devoted to freeing Montecore from his Vegas lifestyle. Proceeds from the sale of T-shirts supposedly go to the Tiger Conservation Programmes of Bhutan, Nepal, and India. Check it out.
